Rat Traps & Rat Poison Would Not Stop Them

We gave up on rat traps and rat poison

It all started when a rat ran across the garage floor. I saw it and I said “Wow! A rat!”. My wife, Vivi, didn’t see it but heard me.
That’s all it took. The door from the house to the garage got locked and taped shut. She wouldn’t go into the garage to get a car out or put a car in. Anything that she needed that was in the garage became my duty.

I cleaned out the garage and we set out $25 of poison, but no effect.

We called an exterminator. $250 later, we had poison outside the garage and traps inside the garage and in the attic. I have to say the rats ate the poison and the rat traps worked, but the rats didn’t stop.

I searched online for a cure. Nothing. I was surprised! We spent $150 on more rat traps and rat poison.

Being an architectural engineer, I’ve seen plenty of garages, and noticed one common issue. Almost all residential garage doors have openings at the bottom of the door ends. If you stand in a dark garage during the day, daylight is visible at the ends of the threshold – WHERE RATS COME IN. It’s like a welcome mat asking rodents to come visit.
